God’s Promise

As I prepare to visit Rome….I have been pondering on the reality of being where Paul was.  I love the book of Romans because of a multitude of reasons. One of those reasons is Paul so clearly enunciates the infinite work of what Jesus Christ did for us on the Cross in this letter.   Today as I pondered holiness and the fact that Christ is our holiness, that there is no way we can produce our own holiness, remembering that we are holy simply because He is holy (Be Ye Holy As I Am Holy), that Christ did it all for us I came upon this scripture in Romans:

“That famous promise God gave Abraham—that he and his children would possess the earth—was not given because of something Abraham did or would do. It was based on God’s decision to put everything together for him, which Abraham then entered when he believed. If those who get what God gives them only get it by doing everything they are told to do and filling out all the right forms properly signed, that eliminates personal trust completely and turns the promise into an ironclad contract! That’s not a holy promise; that’s a business deal. A contract drawn up by a hard-nosed lawyer and with plenty of fine print only makes sure that you will never be able to collect. But if there is no contract in the first place, simply a promise —and God’s promise at that—you can’t break it.”  ‭‭Romans‬ ‭4:13-15‬ ‭MSG‬‬ (emphasis mine)

It is so simple: we have faith (believe) that God sent His Son Jesus to die on our behalf (the great exchange) that is the PROMISE.  In that belief/faith we become a new creation in Christ, fully forgiven, fully healed and always loved.  Not by contract where we have to keep our half of the bargain but ONLY by God’s promise.  So, NOTHING you do or don’t do can break God’s promise.  Amazing love of the Father. ❤️
