I have been writing about Grace and the New Testament Covenant for over a year now. There have been those that have chosen to cut me off in fear of being contaminated with this “new doctrine” which truly isn’t new but the original, those that have tried to convince me I am wrong, yet there have been those that have found the true freedom in Christ that He dearly paid for on the Cross. I was looking at quotes today and saw one from Mark Twain that seemed to strike me today and led to the above thoughts. The Lord many years ago told me that His church needed to go back to our roots. I didn’t understand this statement then but as I sought Him and as the years have gone by I can finally see this occurring within His body world wide. There is a shift to the original gospel that is being preached which is bringing us, His body, back to our roots. Back to the true gospel.
As I have taught church history to tenth graders I have seen an interesting common thread that had caused the shift in the true gospel being taught. I can pinpoint it to a single time in history and it has grown into what we see today across denominations. What we have today being taught within theological schools would run close to what the Pharisses and Sauducees were being taught except that we place the Cross and Christ in with the teaching. It has taken what Christ did on the Cross and made it ineffective or only partially effective. The Pharisses/Sauducees of today within the Christian church walls have taken the greatest event in history for the entire world (the death and resurrection of Jesus the Christ) and diminished it. There are so many within and without the church walls that have said, “I can never live up to these standards.”…..and have given up. The problem is that they are right….NONE of us can live up to these standards nor are we expected to….Christ did it for us.
A couple days ago some good friends were reminding me of Galatians chapter one. A chapter I had read months ago in writing one of my blog posts. Paul was very specific to the Galatians about what gospel needed to be taught and what would happen to those teaching a different gospel. These are not my words but the words of Paul:
“I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; which is really not another [an attempt to be put back under the law- which is not new but old]; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed! For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:6-10 NASB
Much like Paul, I have come, not through my own effort but through Holy Spirit revelation, to understand the gospel of grace. The true gospel, the roots of our Christian Faith. It is time for the church, the Body of Christ, to come back to their roots….back to the original gospel of grace. See grace wins every time…the law we lose every time. We were never expected to live up to the law. The only expectation is to believe in Who Jesus said He is….the Son of God and the only door to His and our Father in Heaven. I challenge you to read through Galatians, Ephesians and Romans and count how many times grace is found. Read asking the Holy Spirit to wash away old teachings, old ways of thinking, the old wineskins and ask for new wineskins. I challenge you to read through some of my blogposts from the last year and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the original gospel. Read the bible verses contained within there and I pray for the revelation of Christ to be seen for you.
Those that I personally know who have come out from under the rules otherwise known as the law (It is Time to Let Go of the Rules-Otherwise Known as the Law) have found freedom, rest, abounding love, favor, blessings, healing, prosperity and peace among so many things. Most importantly though they have found a relationship with the Father in heaven they know that will never change. They are secure in knowing He has good for them in all circumstances and will never, ever turn away from them, and is always there for them no matter what.
This truly is all I want for all Christians and those seeking Him, to come to the place of freedom and joy that surpasses all circumstances; not because of what I have done but only because of what He has done.
It is called a simple message given to simple men and women of Jesus’ time and our time …lets get back to the simple message of GRACE.
