“So come on, let’s leave the preschool fingerpainting exercises on Christ and get on with the grand work of art. Grow up in Christ. The basic foundational truths are in place: turning your back on “salvation by self-help” and turning in trust toward God; baptismal instructions; laying on of hands; resurrection of the dead; eternal judgment. God helping us, we’ll stay true to all that. But there’s so much more. Let’s get on with it!”Hebrews 6:1-3 MSG
The Lord had taken me to this scripture a few weeks ago and I have been pondering with Him and listening to my friends talk and trying to understand what the Lord wants me to understand. I believe God wants me to understand and I want you to understand that we need to turn our back on salvation “by self help” and instead turn in trust toward God is a foundational truth; along with baptizing, laying of hands, resurrection of dead and eternal judgement. This is foundational, finger painting or the milk of the gospel. What I find interesting is when we look at church history, or just history itself, we see churches splitting over milk not meat. I believe with so much argument with the milk we hardly ever get to the meat or to God’s great art.
So my question has been what is God’s great art? Paul goes on, in Hebrews, to speak of producing crops or fruit; Melchizedek and the tithe showing the lesser always is blessed by the greater because Melchizedek blessed Abraham and explains how Jesus is in the order of Melchizedek; since Jesus is like Melchizedek His second covenant is far superior than the first-a direct statement that the old covenant has been shelved; how we, all of us in Jesus, can at anytime come to our Father in Heaven because Jesus’ blood cleanses us inside and out- we have eternal access- so we can live all out for God; how Jesus removed the awareness of sin-Jesus completely removed that once and for all-completely wiped our slate clean of our sins and now we will not face judgement on our own at the end of days because Jesus will be standing next to us-we have Him as our advocate at the time of judgment-because He took all judgement upon Himself for those, that by faith, take His gift; sticking with faith in Jesus-finishing the race with that- keeping your eyes on Jesus; becoming inventive in how to help one another and to love one another and we stand in an unshakeable kingdom being thankful that we have an active God in our lives. (Hebrews 6-13)
I want you to understand this artwork of God naturally happens as we rest in Christ. It becomes an active rest. I want you to live in the freedom of Christ and the output of your lives will naturally be in Christ. I have these great friendships with women and this is naturally occurring as we do life together. Is it perfect, of course not. But Jesus is (Hebrews 10:11-18). As we learn the foundational truth of resting in Him, He activates us to grow in Him, learning and moving forward to see the meat in our lives. It is simple but not always comfortable but ALWAYS good. I want us to live without fear, I believe it is possible to do so. We have no fear that God is going to judge us because that has already been finished at the Cross. He disciplines, but that is like a son or daughter and it is to help us not harm us. Discipline is discipleship not punishment. Punishment was finished on the Crosstoo. I believe we at times get confused with words and their meanings and we need to go back and actually look up words so we understand and see God for Who He truly is. When we see Jesus, we see God and just how Jesus treated and disciplined the disciples is exactly how God disciplines us. Understanding this frees us up to live without fear but with great thanks and love for a Father in heaven that is active in our lives. This will bring the great masterpieces of artwork that God wants to do in and through us.
Read through Hebrews and see what more the Lord shows you. This is only surface level and I believe the Holy Spirit will open your eyes more.
