…shall prosper…..This is the heritage (possession, property, inheritance) of the servants (those in whom the ideal Servant of the Lord is reproduced) of the Lord. (Isaiah 54:17)
In Isaiah 54, God gives promises and tells where our righteousness comes from, Him. One of the promises is quoted above. Right before Isaiah 54 is…..Isaiah 53 😉, this is the well known Old Testament scripture talking about Jesus, the Son of God and all He would do for the people of the world that He loves so much. I want you to keep that in mind.
So many times I have used the scripture: “No weapon formed against me, or my family, or friends shall prosper.” Yet, deep down inside of me were these thoughts:
- As long as I haven’t done anything wrong that I haven’t dealt with.
- As long as we are doing everything right.
- As long as I don’t have any sin in my ancestors that I haven’t dealt with.
- As long as I have my thoughts right.
- As long as I can focus on God.
- As long, as long as, as long as…..fill in your own requirement.
So really, I didn’t believe that no weapon formed against me shall prosper. I believed if I had everything “in order” then God’s promises were mine (another core belief that doesn’t line up with God”s truth being stripped by Him).
This morning the Lord made this very clear to me. He reminded me that Jesus took my place, that I don’t have to have everything right because as I have accepted His willing sacrifice, He took my place and swallowed up sin and death at the Cross. Now, when I say no weapon formed against me will prosper, that long list is swallowed up in Jesus, because He set things right, just like Isaiah 53 said. So when He says NO in Isaiah 54:17, the Hebrew definition of this word means totally, the whole, all, lifetime, continually, completely. I really want you to understand what this little word means. Because of what Jesus did (Isaiah 53) we sit with full assurance in Grace (undeserved, unearned, favor and spiritual blessing). Jesus freely took our place on the Cross and bore all of the shame, disease, curse, the perfect sacrifice that took all of our sin and all we have to do is say thank you Lord for the fact that No weapon formed against me, my family, my friends will prosper and there is so many more blessings to thank Him for. These are ours not because of what we have done, but because of what He has done. My requirements only negate what He did at the Cross. He fulfilled the law, thank you Jesus for taking my place. Sweet Grace.
