…by knowing Who you are and Whose you are.
The enemy of our souls consistently wants to keep us in an if/when=then principle. If I then…or When I then.
I am certain you can fill in the blanks. If/When I can just get free, stop etc from__________________ then God will use me, bless me, etc. You get the idea. Yet, I do not see this as God’s way. If you believe we still live under the law then ofcourse this is how you would see it. But, as believers in Jesus Christ we are no longer under the law but under grace, a much better way.
All that passing laws against sin did was produce more lawbreakers. But sin didn’t, and doesn’t, have a chance in competition with the aggressive forgiveness we call grace. When it’s sin versus grace, grace wins hands down. All sin can do is threaten us with death, and that’s the end of it. Grace, because God is putting everything together again through the Messiah, invites us into life—a life that goes on and on and on, world without end. (Romans 5:20-21 MSG)
As the Lord was speaking the above statement regarding the if/when/then cycle, He reminded me of a story about David’s mighty men. This is what He wants us to remember:
When David was running from Saul in Chronicles or Samuel there were men that came to him that helped him (see 1 Samuel 22). In verse 22 there is a description of these men. They were in debt, discontent, and in distress. These guys don’t sound like they are ready for ministry at all according to humanity reasoning. But God! The rest of 1 Samuel and into 2 Samuel we can hear what they did. Were they perfect, no! Yet, as we see their description in 2 Samuel 23 we hear what they became as they walked out what God had in front of them. They didn’t get caught up in the if/when/then cycle but moved forward, made mistakes, yet continued forward and became David’s Mighty Men of Valor. What a great title!!
I want to encourage you to let go of the cycle of needing to find out what is wrong with you in that cycle (it is exactly where the enemy wants you) and look forward and do what is in front of you and if you don’t see anything in front of you ask Father to show it to you. Where I live ~90% of the city needs Jesus. There is plenty in front of us here and in other places. There are broken people that need to feel the Love of Jesus, the Love of the Father in Heaven and we are His hands and feet and our heart will run over with His love as it needs to. Ask Father to open your eyes around you, move forward and as you do you might make mistakes, but continue forward then you will look back to who you were before and you won’t even look the same. Because as we focus outside of ourselves on others, God does the work inside. It is amazing! Come and be a mighty man/woman of valor and do what is put in front of you. Let’s touch this world with Jesus!
